Sand and gravel materials are sold in ½ cubic yard increments.

Approximate coverage for gravel materials is 70 sf per ½ cubic yard @ 2” depth.

Sand

The Rock Place offers two types of sand – masonry sand and coarse sand. Masonry sand (fine sand) is used as base material when installing a pool. Coarse sand (bedding sand) is used as base material when installing a paver patio.

  • Choosing Your Gravel

    First, you need to consider how this gravel will be used. If you are looking to decorate a planned landscaping project, or just want to add some aesthetic variation to your yard, you are looking for decorative gravel.     However, if you are wanting to use it to lay your driveway or sidewalks, as a base for pouring concrete, or use it as a draining mechanism for, say, a septic system, you are looking for functional/utlity gravel. This type is ideal for things such as draining water or protecting your yard from erosion. In other words, this gravel serves a purpose.

  • Limestone

    So what type of functional/utility gravel is most prominent? That would be limestone. You can use other types of stone for your driveway, but limestone is traditionally used the most. Why? Because you want the finished product to be packed firmly and limestone is optimal for this. Limestone is all different types of sizes and is also angular in shape, allowing a tight fit against each other, resulting in an even surface. If all of the stones are the same size, like with pea gravel, they will not bind with each other, creating an uneven surface and also creating the problem of being loosely packed.


    Also, limestone contains packing dust. Such dust helps the limestone bind together for an even firmer, flatter surface.


    All of these attributes of limestone makes it the optimum choice for functional gravel.  The Rock Place offers four types of limestone gravel – fines (¼ down), #57 (¾” inch), ¾” crusher run, and joint filler( 3/8”) .
